Fridge Oatmeal

You know that thing where everyone and their mom is making fridge oatmeal these days? I, too, am making fridge oatmeal.

Ingredients:

  • old-fashioned oats
  • milk
  • frozen peaches
  • brown sugar
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg

Step one of all this is acquiring a jar. The ones I’m using originally held apple butter and lemon bonbons. You can also get canning jars from wherever: pretty much anything foodsafe and watertight.

Put equal parts milk and oats in the bottom of the jar, then add the cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. Add plenty! Breakfast is the start of the day, and oughtn’t be some kind of Calvinist self-flagellation. Chuck half a handful of frozen sliced peaches on top, seal it up, and put it in the fridge overnight.

In the morning, stirring or vigorous shaking will mix it pretty adequately. I grab it on the way out the door to commute to campus, and it means I have breakfast right on hand when I get there without having to pay for anything.
